This week's cover story, "Your Rags to Their Riches," examines Campus California, the nonprofit behind the used-clothing dropoff boxes that have been popping up around the Bay Area. Matt Smith's story explores possible connections between that group -- which calls itself an independent local charity -- and an international organization that European prosecutors say has been run by a Danish fugitive wanted for financial crimes.

The fugitive is Mogens Amdi Petersen, and his organization is Teachers Group. It was founded in the 1970s by a group of instructors with shared leftist ideals; Danish legal documents allege it has grown into a multinational conglomerate that specializes in earning, skimming, and hiding vast quantities of money.
