Two women were attacked on Pink Saturday in what police are saying is a possible hate crime.

At about 5:33 p.m., a 24-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman were walking south along Ninth Street near Mission Street when a group of six men approached and began kicking and punching them.

One of the suspects made a homophobic comment before fleeing the scene, says Officer Albie Esparza.

Both the victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where one was treated for a broken wrist and the other was treated for a head abrasion.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call SFPD at (415) 575-4444.

This is awful. Do you mind telling us what the suspects look like? That's kind of important. Or is the s_f weekly being to politically correct? the majority of people in San Francisco do not arm. themselves. Go to the Army Navy Store and get yourself sharp keychain that acts like A brass knuckles, they also have whistles bear for your keychain to draw attention if you are in danger. You can also get really good quality mace there.. I recommend the one that is a gel and sticks right to their face and does not spray on to you. When I lived in San Francisco I noticed that people weren't as street smart as they are here in South Florida. You have to look behind you at all times. Notice your surroundings. We cannot control criminals but we can take preventive measures to make sure we keep ourselves a little safer. I am shorter than 5 foot and female and I was almost kidnapped in broad daylight in Fort Lauderdale last year. The man drove his car right up to me as I was entering a fast food restaurant... I pulled out my air taser and he screamed in fear and drove off. He obviously thought I had a gun because when you look at it that's what you're thinking. Most people don't pull out an air taser and most criminals don't expect a short female like myself to have a weapon of any kind on them. After reading about all the crime going on in my favorite CD that I used to live in until a couple years ago, it doesn't seem safe anymore. And when you are a pedestrian you are an easier target then when you are driving. Please be safe everyone and know that in California and in every state in the US, you can carry an air tazer.. Go on the website they cost about $400 for a c2. That's the model I have.

A big part of why this bothers me (beyond the act of violence) is that this (and the other beating) happened on busy streets at peak people traffic hour. It seems to be a symptom of  the "new SF"mentality to "keep your head down (likely in your phone) and not get involved" philosophy when you see things happening in the street. A "not my problem" type of mentality. It's repulsive.

six? the 11:00 KRON 4 news said five, I think. three black guys and two latino guys. whichever it was, five or six, against two women is pretty cowardly.

Cela Oceguera no I didn't :( also, two people got shot yesterday when some guy starting shooting at the very end of the day. It's terrible. I'm afraid they are going to cut Pride for next year.

I'm sorry, but pride in general is getting out of hand and might need to be downsized... Ever year there is a shooting and this year a shooting and a HATE CRIME! I'm all about the celebration but clearly these "pride parties" are more about the party than anything remotely about celebrating diversity and love... #missingthepoint

This ain't the first thing, shoot on Saturday I was waiting on the j to come so I can get back home. Ok couple of minutes passed and the J came, but to no make things interesting that was the j last stop cause they couldn't go all the way to balboa, anyway we found out about this then I hear this old lady blaming LGBT's for the lack of transportation.

What in the hell?? 5:30 in the afternoon, broad daylight -- Like I said, it is not anyone within the community or that lives in SF that commits these crimes. It's like people come from over the bridge to specifically target LGBTs
