How did a body end up in the garbage chute?
San Francisco police are trying to determine how a body ended up in a garbage chute at a motel in the city's Mission District.

Last night at about 11:15 p.m., the cops were called to a motel on the 400 block of Valencia Street regarding a dead person. When police arrived, they found the body in the garbage chute, but did not find any external signs of foul play. Officers also combed the scene, looking for evidence.

At this point, police do not believe it's a homicide, says Officer Gordon Shyy.

The Medical Examiner's Office will have to determine the cause of death.

"Regarding why the body was in the chute, SFPD and the [Medical Examiner] will look into that as part of our investigations," Shyy says.
