Zhen Guang Ng Identified as Elderly Pedestrian Killed on New Year's Eve, Driver Jailed

Update 10 a.m.: Police have identified the driver as 69-year-old Giampaolo Boschetti of San Francisco. He was booked into San Francisco County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Original Story 9:23 a.m.: Medical authorities this morning identified the man who was killed while walking through the city's Outer Mission neighborhood earlier this week as 86-year-old Zhen Guang Ng of San Francisco.

According to police, Ng was walking along the intersection of Rolph and Naples at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday when a car collided with him. Ng was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

San Francisco traffic investigators responded to the scene where they questioned the driver. Officer Albie Esparza says the pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. The driver has since been booked in jail, however, police are not releasing his/her name or booking photo at this time.

Engineering really? 95% of fatalities occur because of a drivers total neglect of any kind of traffic laws. Most of these occur from people going to fast.... plain and simple, we have become terrible drivers that don't pay attention or even care about public safety. Driving is a privilege, not a right....

whole sf roads ,signs, traffic, bike roads. pedestrian signs needs to be remodeled and renovation , lack of engineering of roads causes all problems everyday, i highly suggest american engineers to go germany and holland learn how to do this, bay area is worse freeways and signs its needs update.

I nearly struck two people in the crosswalk at 17th and South Van Ness on New Year's Eve. I did not see them...at all. I will make sure to extra vigilant going forward into 2014.
