For reasons unbeknownst to us, people love to steal plants in San Francisco. And with what little greenery we have to enjoy here, it's not wonder people get so peeved.

So here we go again: Another plant thief recently descended upon San Francisco, snatching potted plants, including trees and flowers, from the sidewalk gardens along Walter Street.

According to neighbors, the thief is "selective" in his plant pilfering. He doesn't just take the garden variety of plants, rather he digs up and tarps up the loveliest and priciest plants he can find.

It appears some neighbors have caught the guy in action -- on camera. Watch:

My husband recently caught a woman enter our yard and start picking pears from our tree. When he said "that's weird" to her - she became all indignant about it. Joke's on her though! Those pears are inedible.

if its not chained down thieves will take just about anything, even with chains they seem to find a way if they want it bad enough

Years ago I taught at a school in San Mateo with a school garden out back on the playground. Someone donated about 100 flowering plants which we worked hard to put into the planters. We were so sad to come to school the next Monday morning and see them ALL gone. A little hole where each replanted root system was placed.
