Frisco was killed last night
Update 12:13 p.m.: Authorities have captured the second pit bull who had fled the crime scene last night. According to the Animal Care and Control, the second dog, a large white female named Cleo, was found at a homeless encampment this morning and taken into custody without incident.

Cleo has been transported to the city's ACC shelter where she's being held until her Vicious & Dangerous dog hearing. Yes, Cleo, like any other suspect, is facing trial.

The dog that was shot and killed was a black male pit bull mix named Frisco. No word on who owned the dogs.

It's not the first time these two dogs have run into trouble with the law. According to Rebecca Katz, director of the ACC, both dogs were hauled to the shelter back in December after the vehicle they were in was towed.

And lastly, Katz says this incident shouldn't give all pit bulls a bad rap.

"It's unfortunate that these incidents have a negative effect on pit bull adoptions. The breed can make wonderful, loving companions," Katz says.

Cleo to face trial in San Francisco
Original Story 8:29 a.m.: San Francisco police shot and killed a pit bull last night as the canine was mauling a man in Golden Gate Park.

The craziness happened at about 10:40 p.m. when cops were called out to the park where they found two canines attacking a man near 25th Avenue and Lincoln Way. Cops shot and killed one of the dogs while the second pup ran off, says Officer Albie Esparza.

Police say there was a second man who was also bitten while trying to help the victim. Police told KGO News that they believe that man may have been the owner of the attacking dogs.

The victim, who was bitten several times, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police are still looking for the second dog who was last seen fleeing the crime scene.

I always wondered why every homeless kid in the Haight had a pit bull on a rope. If you can't afford to feed and take care of yourself, what are you doing with a dog? You'll notice they use them as a sympathy tool for begging, or even an intimidation tool to get money. You can bet the dog gets low priority when the owner tries to figure how much money will get spent on drugs vs. the dog. Where are the animal advocates on this issue, by the way?

Kill all pit bull's.

Mandatory long prison sentences for pit bull owner's who do not control their killer dogs.

Poor pups. What if the guy was antagonizing them? They should have used a tranq gun instead and done some behavioral tests. Ugh people are the worst.

Its the owner not the breed. And small dogs bite more often than pit bulls, or other breeds that are hated on by the media but you do not see that as a headline. My two pit bulls would not hurt anyone unless you were attacking my kids or I. What did the so called "victim" do to these dogs is my question.

I am in Fort Lauderdale and you see me pimples everywhere because they're banned in Miami. Their owners have been forced to move up north for that reason. I never hear about stories concerning pitbull mauling humans. That's because we barely have to destinations in Florida. Everybody drives a car or rides a bicycle

Bad grammar there. So there was a guy who was mauling dogs? And the police shot him?

Two commas. That's all you needed. Dog, mauling man, shot and killed... would have sufficed

A pit mauled my cat and it died a horrible death. I don't think the owners trained it to do that, either. They were just dumbasses who walked the pit without a leash.

Mauling: the act of chopping wood for a fire?

So a man was mauling a dog, and was shot? What's with this title?

"Second dog still on the loose"...what's worse is that it sounds like the owner will still be on the loose.

Because of how stupid people are in regards to these attacks, you should remind folks that they ONLY DO WHAT THEIR OWNERS TRAIN THEM TO DO. Nothing more. They are extremely loving creatures.

Funny how THESE stories don't make the news as much eh? THIS is why I moved out of San Francisco, it's IMPOSSIBLE to live if you own a pitbull. Fuckin bullshit. My dog wouldn't hurt a human unless she was being tortured. And ONLY then.

Nonsense. It's almost always a pit bull. These dogs were bred specifically for fighting, and it's inherent in them. How many times do we hear the story of the "nice and loving" pit bull that without warning went off and mauled some kid to death? Come on...

@straightupthug  I call bullshit. I was bitten in the face by a Jack Russell Terrier (terror!) at a BBQ while my pitbull was playing with other guests. The JRT is very lucky my dog missed the action.
