A 47-year-old man is in critical condition today after he was hit by a car while walking through the city's Oceanview District last night.

Sgt. Eric O'Neal says the accident happened at about 9:12 p.m. when the victim and his brother were walking through a crosswalk at Alemany Boulevard at Brotherhood Way. A driver in a 4-door sedan hit the victim, police said.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with a traumatic head injury that';s left him in life-threatening condition.

The driver, who was only described as a 27-year-old man, told police he did not see the pedestrians walking. The driver was arrested at the scene, O'Neal says.

O Nea'l says that between Dec. 31, 2013 and Jan 12, 2014, 167 pedestrians have been involved in collisions in San Francisco. That includes vehicles and bikes. In those incidents, pedestrian injuries ranged from minor to fatal.

How many times have I seen peds walking across a crosswalk without even batting an eye at oncoming traffic, as if it's some sort of self-righteous right to cross the street, sometimes feel like these peeps have some sorta death wish, peds stop presuming motorists are gonna stop! LOOK FOR TRAFFIC, DONT ASSUME WE SEE YOU!!!

Wondering how many of these tragic cases involve people wearing headsets. Right or wrong, good or bad, we all need to pay attention to our surroundings. Not worth our lives

How about some "Stop, look and listen for pedestrians," "Don't cross the crosswalk when pedestrians are walking" and 'Put down that f#$% cellphone while driving" signs.

Almost hit yesterday afternoon walking my dog across the street. Car decided to roll through the stop sign and take a right as I was beginning to cross the street. luckily, i'm paranoid now after reading every other day about pedestrians being hit in cross walks.

This town has some bad drivers and very little police enforcement.

If you can't be bothered to look where you're going, you shouldn't be driving, period.
