That corner is very dangerous because drivers are driving up and pedestrians cannot see the drivers below..also, yellow doesn't mean go faster..people are always in a rush :/

That corner is a hotspot for close calls and accidents. It was just a couple months ago that a doctor was struck by a vehicle there. You get honked at by impatient people for simply crossing the street legally.

A pedestrian was struck and killed today in San Rafael, while using the crosswalk.

Pedestrians should watch for cars too!!! People here take the "pedestrians have the right way" for granted, I have seen people cross a street without even looking because all their attention in on their phones!!

Human life isn't important when ya gotta get to that meeting in your new Prius while slamming down a Latte and texting. And your life isn't important when ya have to stare at your phone while crossing the street. Bicyclists don't respect the rules of the road either. Seems like motorcyclists are the only licensed ones really aware of the dangers of the road.

I have been driving well for decades and have noticed that pedestrians have become a lot more careless since the advent of cell phones. It's asinine to think you have the right to ignore cars that approach at driving speeds while nonchalantly crossing the street and texting or yammering away on the iphone. Wake the F up. I've also noticed that bulky SUVs are very clumsy vehicles and those drivers apparently lack the spatial awareness and manual dexterity to operate them safely. The city would do well to require a separate class of license to drive those monstrosities. They also pose a greater risk to bicyclists.

This is terrible! Pedestrians and drivers (and people in general) need to lose the entitled attitude here. When you're about to cross the street - LOOK. When you're driving or riding - LOOK and SLOW THE HELL DOWN. This city has become a mess of cars, and as it continues to fill up with people at the rate it is, we can do each other a favor and move slowly and deliberately on the streets and sidewalks regardless of our mode of transportation..

I have been driving a lot more lately because I hurt my foot and can't walk. I can tell you one thing is for certain, a lot of pedestrians and cyclist believe it is their god given gift of right-of-way, regardless if there is an ALREADY moving vehicle that is going to cross their path. I have had many close calls with people that think just because they have the right-of-way that they are actually being seen and that they can just stroll out into the street in front of a 3500lb car going 20mph+ You don't stand a chance pedestrians, so please look twice before trying to beat that crosswalk sign or jaywalk to save 30 seconds. Your life is worth more, plus now some driver and their family has to deal with the guilt of hitting you. Also, standing in the street off of the curb while waiting for your bus or crossing is not going to make the light change any faster, it just makes you an easier target and makes it harder for drivers to navigate the streets around you. PEACE and LOVE peace and love

There is a lack of traffic enforcement in SF, there is also a total lack of responsibility on the part of both pedestrians and the drivers. I have had drivers gesturing to me to run out of their way when I'm crossing the intersection with a green walk light. What is wrong with people in this city? Many are selfish piles of crap that don't deserve to live.

Everyone-drivers included-needs to get off your phone! I can’t count how many times I’ve looked in my rear view mirror at some jackass either texting or talking on their phone in the car behind me. Or cyclists blowing through stop signs while texting, or peds not looking up at all when coming to an intersection. It’s like everyone has a death wish or just doesn’t care.

I used to like swerving into peds on cels. But then again I've ridden well over 100,000 miles including Pro racing.Best was scaring some ding bat wandering out into the street and she dropped her phone which got run over. You may be right, but argue with a bumper.

it's legal to turn on red unless otherwise posted... Sadly, the majority of bicyclists here don't follow the rules of the road...

As a cyclist in SF of 20 years, I can 100% agree that drivers are worse since the holidays than ever before. They're speeding, not yielding right of way, turning on red, not using signals. I know peds & cyclists also do wrong, but I'm more fearful lately than ever of the driving I've witnessed!!!!

Cars need to slow down and be more cautious....and pedestrians need to look up from their phones and be careful as well. No idea what happened in this case, not looking to cast any blame anywhere, but many times when walking in SF in addition to cars/bikes being a bit reckless, people walking with eyes glued to screens rather than being aware of their surroundings. Sad all around what happened today.

try looking both ways before walking in the street...

Cool victim blaming, bro. Regardless of what the pedestrian's attitude on crossing the street is it is still your responsibility as a driver to be the vigilant one as you are the privileged one driving a hulking metal deadly weapon.

Do drivers follow the rules of the road? I ride a bike and drive in the city and I'd say drivers are way worse at following the rules. People just notice the cyclists more because there aren't as many. A lot of drivers turn right on red without coming to a complete stop first as the law requires. Had many near-accidents due to this behavior.
