How Much Colder Is It Going to Get in San Francisco?
You can learn a lot while riding public transit. The other day, while on the M Line, I overheard a young woman remark "It's cold as tits outside." While that still gave me no indication of the exact temperature out there, I gleaned that it was time to bundle up -- and stay bundled up.
Flickr/andreasmarx You think you're cold?
The arctic-like weather you experienced over the weekend has made the Bay Area its home away from home. In other words, it's going to be fucking cold again tonight when another freeze warning goes into effect for all inland areas in the San Francisco Bay Area, between 10 p.m. and 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The temperatures will drop to the 20s and 30s as a very cold air mass chills in the Bay Area and Monterey Bay. The only area that will not have sub-freezing temperatures is San Francisco. Crank the heater up, pile blankets on, and wrap your head around this new reality: Winter has arrived.
So here's your daily reminder: Bring your pets inside, put a sweater on them (the cute argyle one you got in the Castro), cover your plants, and hand out extra blankets and hot soup to people in need. The homeless are advised to seek shelter, as the hypothermia risk is high. Already a handful of homeless people have died from hypothermia in the South Bay last week because of the crazy cold snap.
We know that all this talk about the weather is starting to pester you more than the cold weather itself, but if we don't warn you, who will? Don't worry, though later this week it's supposed to warm up a bit, if you call 54 degrees warm.
