Shawn Sixta, San Francisco's Most Wanted Bike Thief, Arrested
On Friday, police arrested 37-year-old Shawn Sixta after allegedly finding him in possession of stolen property and tools used to steal bikes. According to press reports, Sixta was detained for violating his probation.
Officer Matt Friedman, who works with the San Francisco Police Department's Anti-Bike Theft Unit ,told KTVU that Sixta has long criminal history, including more than six arrests for bicycle theft, with the latest occurring in April.
When Sixta was arrested this time, he allegedly had tools on him that were specifically used for stealing bikes. "One of the tools was a modified car jack" Friedman said. "You can shave down parts of it to fit inside a U-Lock and then you crank up the jack and it explodes the lock in less than a minute."
Police bare hopeful this latest arrest will create a lull in the rampant bike theft around town.
"He's a criminal of opportunity" Friedman said. "Whatever he sees that he can take he does and he's very good at stealing bikes."
