A group of cops shot a man in the Marina District after he allegedly beat and shot another person, then turned his gun on police.

Sgt. Danielle Newman says the incident happened at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday when the cops responded to an altercation at Chestnut and Pierce streets; an adult man was allegedly striking another person over the head with a silver firearm.

The man then fired several shots at the victim, Newman said.

After the shooting, the suspect ran eastbound on Toledo and hid in a bush at Mallorca and Capra streets. Officers spotted the suspect, and several times they ordered him out.

Instead of doing what the cops asked, the suspect bolted, running northbound on Mallorca. As he ran, he turned his own gun on the officers, prompting the cops to fire back.

The suspect was hit by bullets; he was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where is is in serious condition this morning, police said.

There were plenty of witnesses on the scene who are being interviewed now.

As for the initial victim, that person fled the area in a blue vehicle with a female driver. They were later found out of the county, and investigators are on their way to interview them.

High noon in the Marina.  Odds are, he was loose on probation or parole.  Are you listening, D.A. Gascon?
