Maybe
Update 8:30 p.m.: It was wishful thinking. BART's management issued a statement just now essentially saying there's not a chance in hell they'll accept the unions' latest proposal, which was released at about 5 p.m. today. Here's the statement from BART leaders:

In response to the union leaders' statement tonight, BART would welcome an end to the strike. However, we cannot accept the ultimatums contained in the union leaders' letter. The letter is simply a repeat of the same unacceptable offer they made at the bargaining table yesterday before the union leaders ordered members to walk off the job

Original story 5:17 p.m. Perhaps seeing how upset commuters are with them, BART's largest unions cobbled together a new plan that they say will hopefully get the trains up and running this weekend.

At a 5 p.m. news conference, SEIU Local 1021 and ATU Local 1555, told reporters that they sent this proposal to the BART Board of Directors and General Manager Grace Crunican, outlining a clear path to "jumpstart contract talks and get the trains running."

Dubbed, the "Riders First Plan," the proposal asks BART to agree to accept the unions' compromise language on past practice while the workers agreed to recommit to all of the tentative agreements they have already achieved on a variety of work rules.

Also, the unions are asking that both sides establish a High Level Working Group facilitated by a Federal Mediation Service representative, which could really help.

Read the letter yourself:

No word from BART management about whether they're willing to sign, but if all goes well, you just might have a ride home from the bars tonight.

Poop on you Bart. I actually tried the ferry for the first time and learned Dramamine and Sea Bands will be my best friend if the strike continues.

It's not a two way street. Please tell me why they should get paid more then our police, military, teachers....? They are using the public as a major tool for negotiating and getting their way. That by no means is right. William Dolan how much training, how many years of schooling, do you need a degree, anything to that effect to justify the pay they already get for doing VERY minimal work they do?

I say fire all of the BART workers and hire people who would LOVE to have a job!!!! The workers have a lot of guts to ask that BART not tell them where they should work... seriously? My husband works between 3 bulidings and he goes where his company bosses tell him to work for the day or week or month... it's a job... I think ya'll are NOT highly educated such as is an RN or Doctor yet you get paid very well for what you do. Your customer service truly stinks, your trains are so dirty it feels as though the riders are closed into a a dirty germ filled area and we are exposed to all sorts of things. You don't take pride in presenting clean trains, or nice people... personally I believe you all deserve the boot! My husband's union told him and other workers to accept a 2% raise for the next 3 years... it would be better to take it than leave it to managment to lower it to 1% or no raise at all. Get real people if you offered a great service to the riders with a smile and a clean place to sit... it would be different... seriously BART reminds me of the getto.

If yall.was in a position to get more money u would to. Why let the rich stay rich and when it breaks down to 75k a year thats an adverage of the little man make 35-65k and the big man makin 100-300k. Bart had a surplus of over 100 million over the last 3 years and havent upgraded shit so instead of the top board members pocketing the money the should share it if their not gonna spend it. Fuck that im wit em!!!

@S.b. Plunko: I LIKE'd your statement because I thought you were joking. Then I thought better of myself; you might as well demolish Northern California and start over. Flatten all those mountains, and fill in the bay, too. Definitely get rid of the San Andrea fault.

I'm a prison guard making less than $65k a year. For $10k more a year I could say "this is a San Francisco/Daly City train. Doors are closing" yet I manage to support my kids and have a nice place to live doing something far more dangerous for less pay. Oh yea and I still had to report to work during the shutdown and still haven't received my pay....guess I'm in the wrong business. Fk BART employees ya greedy ass pansies

$75K a Year for Bart Employees? What kind of a degree do you have to hold to work for Bart anyway? I hope they find a way to prevent Bart Employees of Striking ever again.
