Police say it was 24-year-old Jonathan Denver who was stabbed to death last night following a confrontation between Giants and Dodgers fans after the baseball game in downtown San Francisco.

According to Sgt. Danielle Newman, the confrontation happened at about 11:39 p.m. following the Giants game where they played the Dodgers. The men were near Third and Harrison streets when the verbal dispute got physical.

During the physical fight, Denver was stabbed and taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he died.

Newman said police detained three people in the area and are interviewing witnesses as of this morning.

It's certainly not the first time the longtime baseball rivalry has led to violence. In 2011, Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten nearly to death by Dodgers fans. Police later arrested Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood in connection to the attack.
