Woman Tied Up, Strangled by Man She Met on BART
Police say the 36-year-old woman had met the suspect at the Powell Street BART station on Monday night, and the two exchanged phone numbers. The next morning at about 4 a.m., he reportedly called her and the two agreed to meet up.
She invited him over to her place on the 200 block of Berry Street where the couple had consensual sex. Afterward things turned ugly, police said.
Officer Albie Esparza says the man demanded money from the woman and then tied her up and strangled her before fleeing with her stuff. At about 7:45 a.m., the victim was able to free herself and call police. She was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where she was treated for bruises to her face and neck.
The woman didn't have any information about the unidentified man who was described as a 35-40-year-old black man, about 5-foot-11, weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing a camouflage jacket, jeans, and black-and-white shoes.
"We're trying to see if we can get an ID on the suspect," Esparza said.
In the meantime, he warned locals to be careful when meeting up with strangers. "Anytime you meet someone new, you should try to obtain basic information about them, or take a picture with your smartphone just so if anything were to happen, like in this case, you can give information to the police.
