The great news is that the new Bay Bridge will open on time. The bad news is that the Bay Bridge will be closed for five days over Labor Day weekend while crews do the finishing touches to the new span, including paving and striping.

Aren't you really glad BART isn't on strike?

In fact, BART says in lieu of bridge service (which will close from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3), it will operate its trains around-the-clock between Wednesday, Aug. 28 and Tuesday Sept. 2. Note: BART will not operate overnight Monday because the transit agency conducts mandated inspections.

The new span is slated to open on Sept. 3.

You can get all the transit information you need about transportation alternatives via Visit 511.org. Also, BART is currently finalizing details, including which stations will be open 24 hours and how frequent the trains will run. All that information will be released ASAP.

We'll remind you when the time nears.
