Bradley Manning supporters are happy today
Former U.S. Army intelligence analyst Pfc. Bradley Manning was acquitted of aiding the enemy, yet found guilty of espionage and theft, which could land him 100-plus years behind bars. If you feel the need to celebrate all this in a public way, then head down to Powell and Market streets after work this evening to hang out with other Bradley Manning fans.

Manning, who was arrested in 2010 and accused of leaking classified military information to the WikiLeaks, faces 136 years in prison for multiple counts of espionage, theft and other charges. He will be sentenced tomorrow.

Manning's attorney, David Coombs, was stoked by the verdict.

"We won the battle, now we need to go win the war," Coombs told the Washington Post, referring to the sentencing phase. "Today is a good day, but Bradley is by no means out of the fire."

Supporters are now asking the court to release Manning with credit for time served. However, Major General Jeffery S. Buchanan is the Convening Authority for Manning's court martial, which means that he has the authority to decrease Manning's sentence -- no matter what the judge decides. So this is your last chance to demand he do the right thing by calling, faxing, and e-mailing his Public Affairs Office.

The rally starts at 5 p.m. sharp. Bring your favorite Manning mask.

Manning is a hero and a patriot in my book.  We live in an age where the civil liberties our forefathers fought so hard for are being eroded by the day.  Freedom of Press, Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly are mere ghostly images of their original intent.  We’ve woken up to an Orwellian Society of Fear where anyone is at the mercy of being labeled a terrorist for standing up for rights we took for granted just over a decade ago.  Read about how we’re waging war against ourselves at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/09/living-in-society-of-fear-ten-years.html
