Allegedly Drunken Cyclist and Car Collide in Hit-And-Run Accident

Categories: DrunkSF, bikes

A 26-year-old man is recovering this morning from a head injury after an early-morning collision with a car in a hit-and-run accident.

Police aren't totally sure what happened, but say the cyclist, who was allegedly drunk, was pedaling on the 400 block of Hyde Street at about 3:46 a.m. when he crashed with a white 4-door sedan, said Sgt. Dennis Toomer.

The driver then sped off, leaving the cyclist behind in the street.

Police don't know if the cyclist hit the car or if the driver hit the bike, since the cyclist can't seem to remember and nobody saw the accident. However, people heard the loud crash, and there was front-end damage to the bike, Toomer said,

The cops are headed back out to the scene to see if there was any video footage around.

Now might be a great time to remind everyone not to drink and drive -- that goes for you, too, cyclists.
