Two men were arrested over the weekend after San Francisco firefighters discovered more than 500 marijuana plants while putting out the flames at an industrial warehouse in the Mission district.

Firefighters responded to a fire at a warehouse at the corner of 15th and Shotwell streets shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday, police said. Firefighters discovered the grow operation after putting out the fire.

Police arrested the two tenants Michael Simon, 31, and Joseph Lamoureux 27, who are now facing two charges of illegally growing Marijuana, said SFPD spokeswoman Tracy Turner.

It's not known how the fire started, but the coming across these grow operations is not unusual, Turner said.

Turner said that often times the cops are finding out about these grow houses through firefighters who are responding to calls.

"Grow houses have makeshift electrical work that causes fires," she said
