Kids these days
Last week we told you to be on the lookout for two teenage girls who punched and robbed a 68-year-old woman on Muni. Today, we're going to show you video of that incident, which might help the cops catch these girls.

According to police, the brazen girls, no more than 14 years old, on an outbound T-Line walk up to the victim, punch her, then grab both her purses she was holding.

The girls hopped off the bus and ran off in an unknown direction with both purses, which reportedly had cash and cellphones in it, according to police.

Watch and then be on the lookout:

And these are those "deserving" "youths" who somehow are entitled to free rides.  Meanwhile, plenty of adults have to walk because they just don't have the $4 a round trip costs.

If those two keep up on what they're doing, someday, they're going to mess with the wrong person that might be armed with a gun.

The article calls the T-line a bus. It is a subway line, as the videos show.

All you can say is "ratchet?" wow. Anyway, what are the qualifications of being a total hood rat? I'm not going to go on a rant about the ignorance and lack of knowledge most of your comments on this post. I will say that SF Weekly's news reports are bogus and mostly focus on exploiting Black Americans in a terrible light. Very disappointing. Unliking this page.

We need street justice cause the cops won't do shit. We need to carry arms shoot when called for. We need more executions so there's less burden on our tax payers to pay for prisons.

How did I know they were black?

The first girl looks like the one that stole my phone in Un Sq but was caught by the police after I ran after her. If so, obviously she didn't learn her lesson.

nobody is going to do shit to them and they know it. specially their parents. that's why they do things like this. no discipline, no role models, no manners, and no morals. all equals out to no future. even if they go to jail for few days, they don't care because they know people already in there and its just like a big party. they get to eat, watch tv, hang out with friends, sleep, all for free and don't have to work. now do you really think they care about going to jail?

The comments on here make me so sad.  We need to think critically about these issues!  Why are young black people committing crimes?  This is not about pointing the finger, this should be about figuring out how to fix it.  You know what would be a good start?  How about equal access to education, which guess what, still has not happened over 50 years after Brown v. Board of Education.   And that's just the tip of the iceberg.  That's not to say we are not all responsible for our actions, we are, but shaking your head at black culture for the crimes of two misguided teenage girls is misplaced frustration that would be better spent learning more about these issues, and what you may be able to do to help.  How far we've come. Crime has skyrocketed all over the city since the T-Line began service.  It provides wastes of flesh, like these girls, access to new hunting grounds to carry out their thuggish behaviour.  Shut down the T-Line and you cut off these alleged 'people' from their ability to terrorize an otherwise civilized city.  Let them rob and kill one another and save the legal system and the public the hassle of housing them.

Blacks are 6% of the population and responsible for 50% of the crimes. WTF?

The black community really needs to answer for what's happening to these kids. It's no surprise that the suspects are black - that the majority of crimes committed in SF are perpetuated by young black people. Enough is enough!

This ghetto-rat generation is completely off the chain. We need to bring back the vigilance committees and summary execution.

these girls are a disgrace, but seriously your foul language however isn't exactly helping the black community either. I betcha these girls have foul mouthed parents like you at home to look up to.

Uhm rob if someone commits a crime they are punished. No time for mercy or else every criminal will make that excuse that their parents didnt do enough or they make 2 dollars an hour in some factory or daddy wasn't home. Who cares.

Who said anything about "Time Outs?" Don't put words in my mouth and pro tip, anecdotal data can't be used to prove a point. These kids shouldn't be given up on. I'm not undermining the severity of the crime they committed. Being only 13, they still have a chance to turn things around. It's in my not so humble opinion that hanging children for robbing someone is wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Shandoeja, this is not a Black thing or the projects. Any race robs and kills if they are desperate enough. White black Hispanic etc. watch the news if u dont know. don't make it about race because it's not. Hope they are arrested and tried to fullest extend to make our streets safer.

Rob Miller THINKS THIS VIOLENT ACT is JUST an EXAMPLE of a TEENAGE MISTAKE????? WTF? Can't speak for Ashley that you directed your comment at, but I nor anyone of my friends committed an ACT of VIOLENCE/ VIOLENT ROBBERY of a senior citizen, never mind a female! Agree hanging is strong, but understand this ACTION/BEHAVIOUR warrants serious punishment, and I think our use of TIME OUTS as punishment has little effect on the POS among us! Just my humble opinion!

Hopefully their Grandparents will see this video and give their adult children the 'what for', than their parents give like wise to these vicious young women.

Unfortunately, if these two are caught and punished for what they have done, they will never feel sorry or ashamed for their actions... Unless they hold a public press conference in front of cameras and shed crocodile tears while their mothers "speak on their behalf." Seen/heard it all before!

Rob I. Miller
Rob I. Miller

In this context, the grammatically correct word is "hanged." Pictures can be hung, but people are always hanged. It’s an odd quirk of the English language. I'll let you off easy for that one. However, this whole "hang these 13 year old girls for stealing" is a different story. What the hell is wrong with you? These misguided girls clearly need to be punished for their crime. I hope they are made to feel ashamed of what they did and through this experience realize they need to make some serious changes in their lives. I hope they apologize to that elderly woman, return her belongings, and help her get groceries, do laundry, and clean her apartment for the next 18 months but HANGED? I can't believe there are people like you, who just immediately divorce themselves from reality when they read a headline like this. You probably made similar mistakes when you were a teenager. These girls are troubled and committed an awful crime but they don't deserve to die.

They should be tried as adults snd then hung.

Video shows nothing of the sort.  It is not a subway which means "below ground" SF has no subway.  It is MUNI which goes above ground and below ground.  We also have BART that goes above ground and below ground.

@Kezia Harrell

im a spanish american and grew up in a predominant white area and never felt the need to knock over an old woman to rob her. what is truly frightening is that the media actually steers away from the true numbers of black on black crime. sadly numbers do not lie. the bay is a melting pot of many minority groups, yet the highest of all crimes are black on black. these two young ladies are lost and they obviously fear nothing, so why do you feel this is exploitation? they committed the crime against an elderly woman of their own race? doesn't that bother you? tell you what, show this to your parents and ask them how they feel.

@ashkon too late to think critically. we have to act critically. The Black community of San Francisco needs to address this issue.

@ashkonEver notice how non-black people are always lecturing everyone else about how they have the magic answer on how to “fix” the problems in the black community. Let’s just throw some education at them, that’ll fix it. You see a lot of races in San Francisco, Mexican, Chinese, Russian, you name it, that live in the same crappy conditions, but none of them act as horrible and feral as young black kids, especially black females. This isn’t something that some outsider can step in and “fix” This is a cultural thing that will never ever go away within our lifetimes.

@Rob I. Miller Violently stealing from another human being - intentionally punching someone so you can grab what doesn't belong to you - is not a "mistake".

I agree those calling for the death penalty have a problem with over-reacting and some out-of-control anger. The concept of the punishment fitting the crime isn't for purposes of revenge, but is supposed to help prevent the same people committing more crimes, and deter others from doing so in the first place

However, there are a couple of major problems with your own response, primarily the statement, "You probably made similar mistakes when you were a teenager..." Um, no. The majority of teenagers DON'T commit violent acts or mug people on the street or public transit. Those things are not "mistakes", as noted - please look that word up in a dictionary. Mistakes are things done out of ignorance, or inadvertently - not acts of violence or theft undertaken with malice aforethought. That is the essence of the difference between a "mistake" and a "crime":  intent to do harm.

These two girls intended harm. Sure, I agree they are troubled...but at this point, they must be seen as a CAUSE of trouble first and foremost. Whatever troubles affect them in the short term has to take a back seat to society's obligation to prevent them causing more trouble to and for others. They need help...but they need to be caught and locked up first before they move beyond assault to murder.

As far as redeeming themselves by directly helping the elderly woman they beat and robbed...sorry, but you can't be serious?  Yes, in court they should apologize...but if they are going to avoid jail time, they will need mandatory counseling AND anger management sessions AND structured, supervised community service or similar where it can be guaranteed they won't simply do the same thing again.

In other words:  they are troubled, and in a way ill....but the LAST thing you want is to set them loose anywhere near the woman they attacked until you know for sure they are "well".

No, they don't deserve to die - but they don't deserve anyone's trust for a long, long time either...not until they've earned it. That's what it means to "pay" one's debt to society. It means to re-earn the trust you've lost.

@amyjo9You're being argumentative. SFMTA refers to the T-line as a "light rail" line. It is a train, not a bus (which the article still calls it). The seat layout and door style in the video show a SFMTA light rail vehicle seat layout.

@davidsoto Actually, the crime rate among Latinos is now higher.  But because of political reasons, all Latino perps are labeled white, but not the victims.  I guess when it comes to handouts, Latinos want to be a minority, but when it comes to owning up to criminal conduct, they become white.  Interesting.

@Mike143 @ashkon It's not about being an insider, or an outsider, it's about understanding the complexity of these issues, and not drawing blatantly racist conclusions. I don't have a magic answer, but you and a lot of people on here, are in a bubble of ignorance that seems to be growing.  A cultural thing?  So what exactly has created this cultural thing?  Cultures are not created overnight or at birth, they are a product of sociological circumstance.  To me, your way of thinking poses a MUCH greater threat to the good of our society than these two girls do.  Go Giants.
