A man in his 50s or 60s is suffering a life-threatening head injury after he was brutally attacked in the city's North Beach neighborhood early this morning.

Officer Gordon Shyy says the assault happened at about 12:15 a.m. at 968 Columbus Avenue near the Capital Group Inc. When police arrived, they found the victim unconscious and "not breathing."

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he's clinging to life, Shyy said.

No arrests have been made, and police said the suspect was only described as a white male. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to cal the Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.

We moved from North Beach in the early 90's because we didn't feel safe in the evening, roommate was attacked twice.  Never saw Police patrolling the neighborhood on foot or by car, they were of course out on the strip where most of the action takes place.  Sincerely hope he recovers.

@timetomove Some of those cops were out babysitting and chaffeuring a "character" named Roy Motini, who suffers from severe dementia, is violent and abusive.  He's sort of their little mascot, about as creepy as having a village idiot and bear baiting.  They don't just enable him, they aid and abet him, and the time they must spend babysitting someone who should be in a locked facility could be better spent doing real police work.  They illegally solicited funds to buy him new teeth, used political clout so he could cut the line and get completely free care from UCSF.  Considering the number of people in SF who don't have any dental coverage, and don't create public nuisances, this shows what utter smeglapping asswads some cops are.  I would hope that if I ever got that out of control, someone would have the compassion to make sure I got care, not encourage me to continue to make a spectacle of myself.  He says things and does things that would get you or me arrested, no matter what our mental status, and have on more than one occasion lied about it.  Then, on Xmas day, a woman in my building called 3 times threatening suicide, they did not respond, until AFTER SHE JUMPED OFF THE ROOF.  Captain Tom needs to be reassigned to the evidence room.  Wonder how he got promoted?

Did I mention that Motini kicked an aged Yorkshire terrier that was doing absolutely nothing and tried to kill a cat?

Google that name.  And if he were someone you cared about, would you want him out there using racist, sexist, homophobic rants and following people down the street threatening them?  he broke his hip recently, and had to be kept in 4 point restraints at all times.

Why isn't he in Laguna Honda?
