More crime last night
Update:Medical authorities have identified the shooting victim who died as 27-year-old Richard Wells.

An unidentified man was shot to death in Bernal Heights last night and over on the other side of town, three others were injured in a home invasion robbery that went awry.

In the first incident, the cops were called to the 900 block of Ellsworth at about 12:04 a.m. on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man, about 20 years old, with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died.

Nearly three hours later, the cops were called to the Bayview where three people had been shot during a home invasion robbery, according to police.

The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on the unit block of Elmira Street. The victims told police that three black men busted into the home where a man, a woman, and two children were sleeping.

Details are sketchy, but police said when they arrived they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds, one of which was one of the suspects. The male victim is recovering from non life-threatening injuries while the woman and the suspect are both in critical condition.

Sgt. Dennis Toomer says it appears that one of the residents might have gotten a hold of the suspect's handgun and turned it on him.

The two kids were not harmed, but were also taken to San Francisco General Hospital for evaluation.

Two of the suspects are still on the lam. Both described as black men in their 20's, Toomer said.

If you saw anything in either incidents, please call the SFPD's confidential tip line at 575-4444 or Text-a-Tip at TIP 411, with SFPD in the header.
