Body found under Hyde Street Pier
Police found an unidentified body this afternoon floating underneath a paddle wheel of the historic Eureka ferryboat at San Francisco's Hyde Street Pier on Fisherman's Wharf.

According to Gordon Shyy, the San Francisco Maritime Park police found the body at about 12 p.m. with the assistance of the San Francisco Fire Department and has since been in the custody of the Medical Examiner's Office.

According to the Medical Examiners Office, the body has been "decomposed for quite some time," which means it could take weeks before the body is identified. At this point, authorities are still unsure as to whether the body is a man or a woman.

"Unfortunately, this kind of thing is more common than you would think," says Lynn Cullivan, spokesperson for the Maritime National Historic Park. "It's unfortunate, but it happens."

Police have yet to determine the cause of death.
