BART Naked Acrobat: Cops Investigate How Yeiner Perez Tumbled Out of Their Grasp
|Yeiner "Naked Acrobat" Perez|
Perez wasn't charged and re-arrested until earlier this month -- weeks after his purported bizarre mid-May escapade at 16th Street Station. Action in his case coincided with the internet proliferation of video footage of a man who surely appears to be the Colombian-born acrobat gallivanting about the station in the nude and latching onto terrified female BART patrons.
Perez hadn't exactly gone into hiding. The unmistakably bushy-haired 24-year-old was spotted last week on the Embarcadero wowing tourists. San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón said Tuesday that BART police did not file an arrest report for Perez until after the disturbing video went viral. BART Police Chief Kenton Rainey today didn't have an answer for that charge, claiming that's one of the matters his agency's internal investigators will have to plumb.

Following the May 10 incident, Perez was subdued by a BART station agent and arrested by BART police. He was then transported to California Pacific Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation and subsequently taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. Perez, who reportedly overstayed his visa, is now facing deportation to Colombia. He is currently incarcerated and facing two felony charges of false imprisonment, four counts of battery while on public transportation, and one count of sexual battery
That didn't come, though, until the video of his alleged romp hit YouTube this month.
