That's certainly a commitment to taking the train
Today is National Dump the Pump Day, and despite the recent bout of transit delays and apparent suicides, public transit agencies are still hopeful they can get you on their side.

So this morning, Caltrain and SamTrans posited this question to commuters: Isn't it time you broke up with your gas pump? The obvious answer, in their estimation, is "yes."

If you're not sure how to break the news to your brand new Smart Car, the two transit agencies have designed this dump-the-pump contest, where commuters have already come up with some great break-up lines you can use. Check them out at #LaterPump.

If you feel inspired, tweet to @Caltrain_News and @SamTrans_News using the hashtag #LaterPump. You can also get involved by Instagramming your best "lonely car left behind" photos and tagging them with #LaterPump to enter the contest.

Those who tweet and Instagram at #LaterPump will also have the opportunity to symbolically let go of a bad relationship by releasing a "gas" balloon. The winners will get something they've never wanted: OGIO SamTrans or Caltrain branded laptop backpack. Hey, it'll be great for carting all your crap on the train.

If you're really serious about leaving, then head on down to the Redwood City Transit Center and Caltrain Station on between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today where transit leaders will be hosting a "later pump" party.
