Giants Fans Should Really Avoid the Golden Gate Bridge Tonight

Best you buy them now
Our friends and co-workers in the North Bay have a great reason to skip out on work a little early tonight: The Golden Gate Bridge is experiencing painful delays, long enough that Giants fans headed to the game tonight (lucky!) might want to reconsider your transportation plans (unlucky!).

The Golden Gate Bridge District fired off a press release just now warning baseball fans that a southbound lane on the bridge will be closed through 11 p.m. tonight. That means drivers should expect aggravating delays in both directions and Giants fans are encouraged to take the Giants ferry from Larkspur directly to the ballpark for tonight's game.

There are only 300 ferry tickets still available so go purchase them now and secure your place on that boat. Advance purchase is required.

The traffic jam started at about 8:30 a.m. when some asphalt in the southbound lane on the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge started to unravel, leaving hazards in the roadway. Crews had been paving the road as part of a seismic safety improvement project.

The temporary lane closure will be in effect until tonight when normal construction lane configurations start.

For more information, visit www.goldengate.org or call 511 (say "Golden Gate Transit," then "operator" to bypass recorded messages)/TDD 711. The Golden Gate Customer Service Center is open weekdays, 7am to 6pm.
