An apartment building in Noe Valley was evacuated earlier today after police found a suspicious device.

Officers were called to the 4100 block of Cesar Chavez at about 12:45 p.m. regarding a suspicious person. When police arrived, they located the suspicious man and interviewed him.

After a brief talk, police detained the man and the bomb squad was called in, said Officer Gordon Shyy.

The building has been evacuated for precautionary reasons. In addition, police have closed Cesar Chavez at Castro Street to both pedestrians and vehicles.

Police are advising everyone to stay out of the area for now.

About a week ago, similar scare happened in the Excelsior because of a suspicious package in front of the library. I was in a restaurant across the street for lunch and was not permitted to leave for about an hour. It's a shame that it gets reported about in Noe Valley and not when it's in the Excelsior.
