Jacob Valdiviezo Identified as College Student Killed in Mission District Shooting
According to police, Valdiviezo, was home visiting his family over Spring Break when he was shot to death in an apparent gang-related slaying.
Valdiviezo had just come home from a party at about 3 a.m. on Saturday and was with a friend outside his home at the intersection of 24th and Bryant streets when a car approached. A man got out of the car, asked Valdiviezo if he was involved in a gang and then shot him, according to police.
The shooter fled the scene in the grey, 4-door sedan. Valdiviezo was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
According to CBS, friends and family insist the college student was not involved in gangs; police also believe the gunman may have mistook Valdiviezo for a rival gang member.
Valdiviezo reportedly graduated with honors from Archbishop Riordan High and was a sophomore at Lewis and Clark University in Portland, Oregon. He was studying economics and was a star athlete on the football team.
