David Thomas Identified as Homeless Man Crushed to Death by BART Elevator

Categories: Local News

The Medical Examiner's Office is still having problems locating family of 42-year-old David Thomas, the homeless man who was killed while sleeping inside an elevator shaft last month.

The Medical Examiner went ahead and released the victim's name, hoping it would help spread the word and his family would be found.

On March 10 at about 9:35 p.m., a man got stuck inside the elevator at Montgomery Street station. After fire officials rescued him, he told them that he had heard a crushing sound before the elevator came to a screeching halt.

Investigators looked inside the elevator shaft and found Thomas' body. He apparently had been crushed while sleeping in the shaft. They found Thomas' personal belongings on top of the elevator.

Anyone with information is asked to call chief investigator Thomas McDonald at (415) 553-1695.

When Mr Thomas was a child, he never planned on being in the wrong place at the wrong time, may he rest in peace.
