Police Shoot Teen After He Allegedly Hit a Cop With His Car
Last night four San Francisco cops shot an 18-year-old man who was wanted in connected with an armed carjacking after the suspect allegedly reversed his car into an officer during a car chase.
Note to self: you'll never win when you're surrounded by cops in a cul-de-sac
Sgt. Michael Andraychak says at about 6:49 p.m., four cops were patrolling the housing projects in the Bayview near Ingalls and Kiska streets when they spotted a silver BMW sedan that was wanted in connection with an armed carjacking in which the suspect used a long barreled gun (could have been a rifle or a shotgun, police said).
The officers attempted to pull over the driver, who decided to press on and try to dodge the cops.
And so the car chase began -- and quickly ended in the cul-de-sac at George Court.
When the suspect vehicle was stopped, officers got out of their patrol car with the intent of ordering the driver out of the vehicle in question. The suspect, however, was not deterred by the dead-end or the cops, and instead of stopping, he reversed his vehicle toward the officers. The rear of the suspect vehicle hit the front end of the police car and then an officer, Andraychak said.
The suspect continued driving in reverse, hitting a second police car before coming to a complete stop. The officer that was hit was in front of the suspect vehicle and in danger of being struck again as the car began moving forward.
The other two officers, fearing for their own lives as well as the officer in harms way, shot at the suspect. The suspect hit the gas pedal, drove forward and crashed into a residential building where the vehicle came to final stop, according to police.
The suspect was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was treated for a non life-threatening gunshot wound. The officer injured was also treated and released.
The suspect was arrested and booked into County Jail, however, police have not yet released the suspects name or charges.
Investigators noted that the suspect and his vehicle were pretty damn similar to those described in an ongoing robbery series in which a shotgun has been used. They're looking into that now.
