Consumate Hater Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hates on Andre Ward
Earlier this month, Andre Ward noted that he would be rooting for Roberto Guerrero in his May 4 fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. This made sense. Ward and Guerrero are fellow East Bay natives. They've known each other since their days on the amateur circuit.
How you gon' hate on Andre Ward?
"I'm a support my guy because I came up with him," he told FightHype.com. "I'm rooting for Robert, man."
Ward, the 26-0 super middleweight champion, explained that he has love for Mayweather too. "I've been a Floyd Mayweather fan for many, many years," he said. "Floyd's style in the ring has helped shape my style, and just his approach to the game in general."
Mayweather, however, doesn't reciprocate the respect. He expressed as much in an interview with the same website, calling out the face of Bay Area boxing two months before fighting one of the region's rising stars.
"Who knows him?" said Mayweather, who is 43-0. "If you're not in Oakland, you don't even know who he is. He's getting older and time is ticking, so I mean, when is he going to ever leave Oakland and put assess in seats somewhere else?"
He couched his hate with hollow phrases like "Nothing against him" and "Not knocking Andre Ward" and "I don't have anything negative or bad to say about Andre Ward." And then he went on to say negative and bad things about the soft-spoken and mild-mannered Andre Ward.
"He calls himself S.O.G. If I'm not mistaken, that stands for Son of God. Last time I checked, we're all God's children. When one fighter is facing another fighter, God don't choose sides. What's going to happen in life is going to happen. Everything is already planned out."
"He can't sell tickets nowhere. He can't sell tickets in Las Vegas."
"This is the only guy I know that's a gold medalist, but don't nobody know he's a gold medalist," Mayweather said of Ward. "He's a gold medalist, but he's making money like he don't even got a medal."
"You need to come to my camp so you can learn the blueprint on how to sell out arenas worldwide. I got the blueprint on how to sell out arenas worldwide."
It's nothing new from Mayweather. He's all about mind games. He's all about saying crazy things. He's all about disparaging his peers. He likely already had a low favorability rating in the Bay Area, which as a sizable Filipino population.
In a 10-minute rant he posted online in 2010, he accused his rival Manny Pacquiao, who is Filipino, of taking performance enhancing drugs. And the he declared, "I'll make that motherfucker make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice."
