Win David Chiu's Money? Come On Down!
| Congratulations! Your neighborhood playground gets funding! |
"It is the most preposterous piece of public policy. As a former member of the board, I am embarrassed," former board president Aaron Peskin told us. "Giving themselves $100,000 to hand out in little tidbits to buy political support? It's like a TV game show."
Rather than simply hand out the money to whomever he sees fit, however, Peskin's successor Supervisor David Chiu has opted to leave that decision to the public. How should District 3 residents enjoy this manna from public coffers? Let's leave it up to them! District 3 residents -- COME ON DOWN!
Chiu is holding the first of many "Participatory Budgeting Voting" sessions at Sunday at 10 a.m. at 17 Walter Lum Place. And you don't even need photo identification -- so long as you're 16 and a District 3 resident, you're all set.
