Violent Weekend in S.F.; Beaten Elderly Man Dies, Lawrence Collins Shot in the Head
San Francisco police say two people were killed over the weekend, including a 78-year-old man who died from his injuries after being assaulted last month. ![]()

Officer Albie Esparza says that on Friday at about 5:45 p.m. the Medical Examiner's Office notified police that the elderly man who was assaulted on the morning of Jan. 28 had died. Esparza told us that the victim was on the corner of Market and Post streets at about 11:04 a.m. when a man threw him to the ground.
The Medical Examiner has not yet identified the victim.
The suspect was described as a white man in his 40's; he was about 5-foot-8, and was wearing a brown hoodie and brown pants. He was last seen headed down Market Street.
Also on Friday night, a 20-year-old man was shot in the head on the 600 Block of Capitol. Police had no more information on the shooting, however, medical authorities identified the victim as 20-year-old Lawrence Collins of San Francisco.
