Eileen Barrett Identified as Elderly Woman Killed by Muni

Medical authorities identified the woman who was struck and killed by a Muni bus over the weekend as 72-year-old Eileen Barrett, a Daly City resident.

According to Muni officials, Barrett was walking near Lake Merced about 4:30 p.m. Saturday when she was hit by a 18-46th Avenue bus.

Initially, she was expected to survive; however, her condition worsened and she died yesterday at San Francisco General Hospital.

Per standard protocol, the bus operator will undergo drug and alcohol testing, said Paul Rose, Muni spokesman.

"While this incident is still under investigation, we offer our condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Barrett," Rose said. "Our top priority is the safety of those who utilize San Francisco streets, and we will work with authorities to find the cause of this accident in order to prevent it from happening again."
