Diane Sullivan Identified as Cyclist Killed by Cement Truck

Medical authorities identified 48-year-old Diane Sullivan as the woman who was killed while riding her bike across from AT&T Park Saturday morning.

Officers were called out to the intersection of King and Third streets just before 10 a.m. as crowds gathered for the Giants Fan Fest. When they arrived, they found Sullivan with life-threatening injuries.

Here's what happened:

Both the Sullivan and the truck driver were heading west on King Street when, for unknown reasons, they collided; the truck dragged the woman before coming to a full stop, according to police. The driver stopped immediately after the crash and did cooperate with police. Alcohol and drugs were not suspected in the accident, police said.

"You do have a big cement truck with a big wheel base and preliminary reports are that [Sullivan] was curbside on her bike, riding, and somehow became entangled," said San Francisco police Sgt. Frank Harre told KTVU.

Sullivan was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

Her name was Diana, not Diane. She HATED being called Diane. I am her niece. Our family has been rocked by this and our world will never be the same. We love and miss her so much already. She was an absolutely amazing, free spirited person.

Bill, why do you assume she was as fault? She got caught in the back rear wheel of the cement truck. She was probably pinched between the truck and another parked car.

I was on Market about to cross (I think) 6th Street the other day, when a cement truck turned right from Market cutting me off. Do these guys sit so high up that they can't see what's practically right in front of them?

Should there also not be a plan to limit traffic in the area, especially huge cement trucks, when there are events that draw tens of thousands of people to the area?

I believe a local official said on the radio report that there is no bike lane on westbound King St. Is this true? If so, shouldn't city planning be partly to blame here?
