WTF?
Update 12 p.m.: Officer Gordon Shyy tells us that the scene has been deemed safe for pedestrians and cars, however, the occupant of the room where the object was found is still being detained for further investigation.

Original story 9:58 a.m.:
Police have closed off McAllister between Jones and Seventh streets while the bomb squad investigates a suspicious object found in a residential building early this morning.

The Chron reports that firefighters were called to a fire reported inside the building at about 6:30 a.m.; as police were evacuating people, they noticed the "suspicious object" in one of the rooms, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The bomb squad was called out to examine the unknown object at about 9 a.m. Meanwhile police have detained the main renting the room where the object was found.

We put in a call to SFPD to find out the details. We'll tell you more when we know more.
