Walter Smith Identified as Man Killed in City's First Homicide of 2013
San Francisco rang in the New Year with its first homicide -- 30-year-old Walter Smith was stabbed to death in the early morning hours on New Year's Day. ![]()

Police had very little information at this time, but said officers were called to Third and Ingerson streets about 3:15 a.m. on reports of a man who was found with a stab wound to his neck.
Smith was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police couldn't confirm what Smith was stabbed with, nor did they have any suspect information at this time.
