Prop. 8: Supreme Court Sets Date to Hear Case on Gay Marriage
Consider this your very own "save the date." The U.S. Supreme Court this morning said that oral arguments will begin on March 26 for the much-anticipated Proposition 8 case, which will finally bring some closure to the gay marriage debate that started right here in California over four years ago.

The oral arguments will begin at 10 a.m. EST -- that'd be 7 a.m. for us West Coasters following along.
Last month, the nation's highest court agreed to review the constitutional challenge to Prop. 8, California's ban on gay marriage, as well as the Defense of Marriage Act. Rulings are expected by the end of June.
The American Foundation for Equal Rights filed a challenge to Prop. 8 in 2009. In February, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Prop. 8 unconstitutional because it "serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California and to officially reclassify their relationship and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples."
Prop. 8 supporters appealed to the Supreme Court, keeping gay marriage in limbo in California. The state has put gay marriage on hold, waiting to see if the court would hear the case.
