Boone, S.F.'s Football-Loving Rhino, to Eat the Baltimore Ravens for Breakfast This Week

Categories: Animals, Sports

In support of the San Francisco 49ers' hard-earned ascension to the Super Bowl XLVII, the San Francisco Zoo has invited media folks to watch its black rhino, Boone, snack on some Baltimore Ravens for breakfast later this week.

And those are one of the many strange perks of being a reporter.

Obviously, the odd-toed ungulate isn't going to be devouring Ray Lewis. What's actually happening is that zoo staff is creating a Ravens logo out of yummy vegetables. Boone, who was named after the 49ers' Alex Boone, will then be released into the enclosure to attack his power breakfast.

Now that we've got you hooked, the zoo also wants you to donate to the 49ers Foundation in the name of Boone (the rhino). "The money will help the zoo bring local youth to learn about these great animals," said Boone (the 49ers player).

Donations of $25 or more will automatically enter the giver into a raffle for VIP passes to the official rhino-naming party at the zoo in the spring. "This is the beginning of a long partnership with the San Francisco Zoo and the 49ers," says Zoo Director Tanya Peterson, "No matter what happens on Sunday, we're behind them all the way."

And yes, we will post photos of Boone gorging on his Ravens breakfast Thursday.
