Yoshiaki Nagaya, Japanese Diplomat, Admits to Beating His Wife
The San Francisco-based Japanese diplomat who was accused of beating his wife repeatedly during their two-year marriage appeared in court today where he reportedly pleaded no contest, which is the same as pleading guilty for felony cases.
Not exactly a ladies' man
Yoshiaki Nagaya, 33, had been charged with two counts of domestic violence while working as a vice consul in San Francisco.
Prosecutors say Nagaya repeatedly injured his "much smaller wife," including pushing her out of a moving car and knocking her tooth out. He entered pleas to the felony charges and in exchange prosecutors agreed to drop other charges, such as assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the Chron, the plea deal means Nagaya won't spend longer than one year in county jail.
Nagaya was arrested in April and initially pleaded not guilty to 17 felony counts of domestic violence. During a hearing, his wife, Yuka Nagaya, detailed their marriage, saying the couple fought often, which escalated into physical abuse after she found a picture of another woman on his phone.
Nagaya, who received no diplomatic immunity, will be sentenced on Feb. 4.
