Update 8:45 a.m.:Police say one of the pedestrians has died. Medical authorities identified the deceased woman as 56-year-old Yuee Yao of San Francisco. The three other victims -- two women in their 30s and an 18-year-old girl -- were treated for non life-threatening injuries. Police say they have arrested a suspect, who was only described as a woman.

Original story 7:34 a.m.: At least one woman is in critical condition this morning after a driver slammed into three pedestrians and drove off along the Twin Peaks Vista Area last night.

San Francisco police say the incident happened at about 8:50 p.m. when a driver in a gray sedan slammed into the pedestrians, knocking them from the roadway onto the adjacent hillside on Twin Peaks Vista Area (aka Christmas Tree Point Road).

Police say a fourth pedestrian jumped out of the way, dodging the car, but still had minor injuries.

The SFFD responded to the accident and evacuated the pedestrians using ropes and backboards. All four pedestrians were taken to local hospitals. One woman, who was only described as being in her 5os, is being treated for life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Officers say they located a possible suspect vehicle and detained the driver; one passenger in the car complained of pain and was also transported to the hospital. Police are now investigating whether the driver was under the influence at the time of the accident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD Hit and Run detail at 553-1641.

Be careful out there.
