Stephen Reid Was Brutally Assaulted and Shot Before Being Gagged and Bound, Cops Say
Original story 2:29 p.m.: The five suspects arrested in connection with the gruesome attack on 26-year-old Stephen Reid and a teenage girl are expected to appear in court this afternoon to answer to murder charges.
Montrail Brackens, Vincent Bell, Heather Leach, Maryann Manalastas, and Tyler Miller were arrested yesterday in connection with the death of Reid, who along with an 18-year-old girl was found Sunday night gagged and bound along the 900 block of Brussels Street.
Although police have not determined a motive, they did say this was a well-planned attack.
Brackens, Bell, and Leach have been charged with murder, conspiracy, and assault. Their bail was set at $2 million. Manalastas, who goes by the alias "Pocahontas" and Miller were charged with conspiracy and being an accessory to the crime after the fact, said Alex Bastian, spokesman for the District Attorney's Office.
According to court documents, Brackens and Bell entered a home at 3733 San Bruno Ave. and assaulted Reid and the teen; they hog-tied and gagged them and put them in a GMC Yukon, where Leach waited inside. At some point, someone shot Reid in the neck before the suspects allegedly dumped the pair on the roadway.
On Sunday at about 8:30 p.m., a driver spotted the two victims and called police. When the cops arrived, both Reid and the girl were unconscious. Reid died later that night.
The teen is expected to survive, according to police. All five defendants are expected to appear in court again on Dec. 14.
