Pedestrian Killed on Market Street Today
Police say the the man, who was in his 40s, was at Market and Beale streets about 2:30 p.m. when he was struck. It's not yet known whether the man was in a crosswalk or if he was walking illegally, said Officer Carlos Manfredi.
The driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the cops, Manfredi told us.
The Medical Examiner's Office says the man has not yet been identified, and that investigators are still at the scene. "Right now they are trying to get all the information to see if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk and if the vehicle was driving in the right direction," Manfredi said.
At this time, no arrests have been made; however, police are investigating to see if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
We'll tell you more when we know more.
The accident happened the same day the District Attorney's Office launched a new ad campaign encouraging pedestrians and motorists to exercise more caution during the holidays when the streets are packed with people and cars.
