Juan Escamillo-Rojas and Juan Escamillo-Savoy Identified as Father and Son Who Died While Fishing
The Marin County Coroner has identified the father and son pulled from the water near the Golden Gate Bridge on Friday as 37-year-old Juan Escamillo-Rojas, and his 9-year-old son, Juan Escamillo-Savoy, both San Francisco residents.
The family had been fishing in the Marin Headlands at Bonita Cove when they were swept out into the Bay at about 4:30 p.m.
According to the Coroner's Office, a wave carried the boy into the San Francisco Bay; his father went in to try and save his son, but neither were able to swim back to shore. About a half-hour later, a fireboat pulled them from the water near the tower of the Golden Gate Bridge.
They were pronounced dead by the time they arrived to the U.S. Coast Guard station.
