Sad story
The family had been fishing in the Marin Headlands at Bonita Cove when they were swept out into the Bay at about 4:30 p.m.
According to the Coroner's Office, a wave carried the boy into the San Francisco Bay; his father went in to try and save his son, but neither were able to swim back to shore. About a half-hour later, a fireboat pulled them from the water near the tower of the Golden Gate Bridge.
They were pronounced dead by the time they arrived to the U.S. Coast Guard station.
