Heidi Heidelberg is back home
The mother of a 16-year-old girl who collapsed and died on the sidewalk in broad daylight has been released from jail after prosecutors opted not to file charges.

The Chron reports that the District Attorney's Office decided not to file child-abuse charges against 46-year-old Heidelberg, pending further investigation.

Heidelberg was arrested on Sunday after her 16-year-old daughter, Jaynice Johnson, mysteriously died.

On Sunday at 12:45 p.m., a witness saw Johnson on the sidewalk at Jennings Street and Quesada Avenue. When paramedics arrived, Johnson wasn't breathing and had a very weak pulse. They attempted to revive her, but she died at the scene, police said.

Police went to her home, where they concluded the girl had been abused. Police Chief Greg Suhr would not say what police found inside the girl's home; however, neighbors say family outbursts were pretty common over there.

The cops believe Johnson might have suffered an accidental head wound two days before she died. Autopsy results are pending, and police are trying to locate witnesses who can confirm the circumstances of the injury, according to the Chron.
