All the SFPD Wants for Christmas Is Your Gun

Turn it in!
Now here's a way to bring some Christmas cheer to the streets of San Francisco.

On Saturday, the Omega Boys Club is partnering with the San Francisco Police Department to host a gun buy-back event where anyone can show up, turn their firearms in, and get money for it -- no questions asked.

Did we mention that you could be a convicted criminal and the cops don't care -- they just want your gun.

"The most important thing is to increase the peace and bring about a safe environment to the overall community and try to get some of these weapons off the street," said Andre Akins, operations manager for the Omega Boys Club. "It's a single day and a single time where we can work to eliminate gun violence."

Here's how it works: Wake up before 10 a.m., unload your working firearm, pack it up in the trunk of your car, and drive over to the boy's club. Cops will be on hand to take your gun, make sure it works, and then destroy it.

You must be a San Francisco resident to participate, so bring proof -- identification, a phone bill, etc.

The cops and these activists are so desperate to get guns off the street, especially in light of the increasing gun violence in San Francisco this year, that they're willing to shell out $200 per weapon. You can turn in as many as three firearms at a time, which means you could be leaving with $600 in your pocket. Aikins said.

"It's just something that needs to be done -- period," Aikins said.

The event runs on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1060 Tennessee St.
