Gold Dust Lounge Gears Up for the New Year
We really can't think of a better way to ring in the New Year than a drink at the Gold Dust Lounge -- the new one, that is.
Since there's been so much community interest in the future of the city's quirky watering hole, we decided to give you a quick update on what's happening over at the old bar's new spot, which is set to open Jan. 11.
Construction has been going on around the clock, and today the loyal folks who work at the Gold Dust -- the band, the bartender, etc. -- did a quick walk through the new building, located at 165 Jefferson St. They seemed happy with what they saw, and next week the marquee will go up.
"They were blown away. Bigger bandstand, state-of-the-art back bar with refrigerated beer lines and pumps, and they all loved the new bathrooms," said Lee Houskeeper, spokesman for the bar.
But here's what you really need to know: There will be back-to-back parties at the new Gold Dust, starting with a parade on Jan. 11, which will depart from the bar's old Union Square location an arrive for the official ribbon-cutting and opening at the new spot. Irish coffees will be offered at 1933 prices -- that's 25 cents a cup -- for the three-day booze fest.
Stay tuned -- more details to come on those parties. But you should definitely make a reservation via the Lounge's Facebook page to reserve your spot at the bar.
