Cops Will Be Happily Arresting Drunk Drivers This Weekend

Categories: DrunkSF

The answer should be "Nothing"
If anything, that hyperbolic video a local cop posted of himself in Lamborghini roaring through the Broadway tunnel at high speed -- and drunk -- made for a nice instructional video of what not to do.

No, veteran police Sgt. Carl T. wasn't actually wasted, nor was he speeding at 100 mph as he stated about a video he posted on his Facebook page (it's since been taken down). But it certainly got everyone's attention. And what great timing.

San Francisco police are not just asking, but telling everyone who plans on driving this weekend to stay sober.

To be sure, cops will be out in force this weekend, specifically on Saturday, cracking down on drunk drivers; if you are driving along the Embarcadero Saturday night, prepare to be stopped by the cops. A DUI checkpoint is scheduled from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on the corner of Broadway and the Embarcadero.

"DUI checkpoints have been an essential part of the phenomenal reduction in DUI deaths that we witnessed from 2006 to 2010 in California," said Christopher J. Murphy, director of the Office of Traffic Safety, which is paying for the checkpoint. "But since the tragedy of DUI accounts for nearly one-third of traffic fatalities, San Francisco needs the high visibility enforcement and public awareness that this grant will provide."

So if you plan on spiking the eggnog this weekend, then stay home please.
