Hey Drunks, Here's How to Not Ring in The New Year in Jail

Categories: DrunkSF

That was you all of 2012
Christmas is over and New Year's is on its way, so now might be a good time for you to sober up and take a short hiatus from boozing the year away.

Good health and sobriety is a decent reason to drink water instead of wine, but here's an even better reason to detox: The cops will be watching you.

Come Saturday, SFPD will stage yet another holiday DUI checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Anyone driving through San Jose Avenue near Randall Street will be greeted by the police, and yes, they will be sniffing you out.

The second sobriety checkpoint will be on the obvious New Year's Eve from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. at 8th and Folsom streets.

Here's how Capt. Denis O'Leary explained the upcoming DUI checkpoints:

Lots of folks will be out during this busy holiday season, enjoying themselves and the holiday festivities, and we want everyone to be safe on our roadways. That's why we will be stepping up enforcement to catch and arrest impaired drivers. Please be forewarned. If you are caught driving impaired, you will be arrested. No warnings. No excuses.

So if you were planning to party hard and pull off being the designated driver on New Year's Eve, 2013 could be a sobering year for you.
