Oakland police confirmed they arrested a 36-year-old man in connection to the tragic assault of a 16-year-old autistic girl.

As the Chron reports today, the cops arrested someone in the beating and sexual assault of the teen who walked away from her group home last Tuesday in Oakland. She was found two days later on a Muni bus; she had been badly beaten and sexually assaulted, according to police.
Police didn't give out details of the arrest, including the suspect's name. At this point, officers would only confirm that someone was in custody.

The girl's father, Jesse White, told the Chronicle that the arrest gave him some relief. "I'm glad they got this guy," he said. "I'm just furious. I just want him put away for a long time."

The teen walked off about 7 p.m. Tuesday from the Fred Finch Youth Center at 3800 Coolidge Ave. in East Oakland. State law says the Center cannot restrain its clients; thus the doors at the facility are left unlocked. However, employees did follow her, both on foot and by car, but lost track of her somewhere near the Fruitvale BART station.

Two days later, she was found on a Muni bus.

Anyone with information about the case should call Oakland Police Department Family Youth Service Division at (510) 238-3641.
