Allegedly Unstable Man Locks Himself in Castro Gas Station, Causing Police Standoff
San Francisco police took a 30-year-old Livingston man into custody this afternoon after he had forced his way into a Chevron gas station and locked himself inside the clerk's office. 
Sgt. Michael Andraychak told us that at about 10:40 a.m., the man was at the gas station on the corner of Market and Castro streets where he was reportedly "acting erratically." His antics were alarming enough that the clerk felt threatened and locked the doors of the gas station mini-mart.
"The suspect threw his body weight against the door and shattered the glass, so she [the clerk] ran into restroom and locked door," Andraychak said.
Police were called out to the scene where they located the suspect who had a small knife and was holding it to his wrist, indicating he might cut himself. As police confronted him, the suspect retreated into the office inside the gas station and locked himself inside. Police set up a perimeter and called for negotiators who tried to talk the suspect out of the locked office.
Some time around noon, the man finally opened the door and surrendered to police. He was taken in for a mental health evaluation.
